From the General Manager

Welcome to the 2015 subscription year! After celebrating a spectacular 25th anniversary year in 2014, the Brandenburg now looks to the future with an invigorated sense of purpose and strong ambitions for artistic expansion. Melbourne audiences have truly taken the Brandenburg into their hearts, so in 2015 we are delighted to be presenting all six series in Melbourne for the first time in the company’s history.

In 2015 Paul Dyer brings together a breathtaking season of baroque and early classical music for you to revel in, including music you may know well, but will never have heard quite like this, as well as newly discovered baroque repertoire only rarely, if ever, heard in Australia.

We will introduce you to three brilliant soloists and rising stars of the European scene who are making their first Australian appearances – Mariana Flores (soprano) from Argentina, Fernando Guimarães (tenor) from Portugal and Claire Lefilliâtre (soprano) from France. We also welcome back to Australia two international soloists who are very much part of the Brandenburg family – Italian baroque violinist Riccardo Minasi (baroque violin) and Australian star Kristian Bezuidenhout (fortepiano), who is now based in the UK. Riccardo and Kristian will be Guest Directors in 2015 and both have planned wonderful concert series for you.

The Brandenburg has always been the home of specialist Australian baroque musicians. It is a particular pleasure to welcome Melissa Farrow (period flute), Brendan Joyce (baroque violin) and Christina Leonard (soprano saxophone) to the centre of the Brandenburg stage as guest soloists in 2015. In 2015 you will also hear Handel, Mozart, Bach, Charpentier and the music of the French baroque, newly discovered works from baroque Naples, Vivaldi as you have never heard it before and of course the cherished annual event that is Noël! Noël!.

I very much look forward to your company in both Sydney and Melbourne for what promises to be a year of beautiful music making.
