Twenty six years ago, creating a period music orchestra was Paul Dyer’s radical way of reinvigorating baroque music in Australia. It was a massive leap of faith.

It was the same spirit of adventure and love of music that led award winning British composer Max Richter to take a baroque classic – Vivaldi’s Four Seasons – and recompose it for orchestra and synthesiser.

The result is an extraordinary creation; a worldwide phenomenon that proves what Brandenburg audiences already know: great music is constantly revealing itself to us and can flourish under radically different interpretations, whilst retaining its indestructible genius. Swapping his harpsichord for an Apple Mac, Paul and guest concertmaster Brendan Joyce (solo violin) celebrate Richter’s own leap of faith with the Australian premiere of this audacious and wonderful work.

Framed by more traditional performances of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.3 and a concerto from Vivaldi’s grand L’estro armonico, is a C.P.E. Bach concerto for flute reimagined for the soprano saxophone. This soaring work is perfectly suited to the lyrical gifts of Australian soloist Christina Leonard, who so endeared herself to Brandenburg audiences in last year’s Noël! Noël! concerts.
